My mother, born in Portugal, she grew up divided between two cultures so similar and at the same time, so different. The distance of origin gives a Euro-Brazilian view to the tropical culture, which is portraited in paintings and texts that express admiration for multiculturalism, nostalgia and self-reflection. Piedade is a Brazilian culture lover and sees in it the materialization of the hybridization which she considers poetry itself.
In honor of her, the images in the title of her posts are composed of the word "distance" in the Allamej alphabet in a way that reminds the Portuguese tiles, very present in the Portuguese and Brazilian architectures among other nationalities around the world. The choice of the word was by Piedade, the first one that came into mind when she was asked: "In a word, what inspires you?"
Distance in Allamej is “tel”, based in Greek τῆλε / tēle /. The letters that make up the word in Allamej are inspired in Greek, Latin, Korean alphabets, and in the cursive form of the Arabic and Roman writings.
My challenge, translate her deep feelings into Allamej and English...

Minha mãe, nascida em Portugal, cresceu dividida entre duas culturas tão semelhantes e, ao mesmo tempo, tão diferentes. A distância da origem dá um olhar euro-brasileiro à cultura dos trópicos que se traduz em pinturas e textos que expressam admiração pela multiculturalidade, saudade e autorreflexão. Piedade é amante da cultura brasileira e vê nela a materialização da mistura que, em si mesma, é poesia.
Em homenagem a ela, as imagens no título de suas postagens são compostas da palavra “distância” em alfabeto alamês de modo que lembrem os azulejos portugueses, bastante presentes nas arquiteturas portuguesa e brasileira entre outras nacionalidades pelo mundo a fora.
